June 26th –
Bus to Venice and then we took a vaporetto down the grand canal- we got
off at the Rialto Bridge. We stayed at
Hotel Serenissima. Had a demonstration on how a fórcolas are made - The oar or rèmo is held in an oar lock known as a fórcola. The fórcola is of a complicated shape, allowing several positions of the oar for slow forward rowing, powerful forward rowing, turning, slowing down, rowing backwards, and stopping. Had dinner at San
Travaso with the group. We all took an
evening gondola ride complete with music.
Walked grand canal and arrived at St. Mark’s Square, which was flooded
due to the high tide. Listened to music
in St. Mark’s Square. Walked 7 miles.
