We extended our tour by spending three days in Sorrento, which were relaxing and gorgeous.
July 8th – Took high speed train from Rome to Naples and then local train to Sorrento (after standing in line for 30 minutes – found out I was in the wrong line and we had to go down a floor – escalators were not marked and signs to local train not marked). A nice man helped us and then wanted €5 – I did not have the money – he finally left). Had trouble finding Hotel – walked all over Sorrento with our luggage – roller bags are hard to pull on uneven cobblestone roads and sidewalks – ran into Jim, Rosemary, Rose and Ben in an alley – they were shopping and we were exhausted- what are the odds of finding them in an alley). Finally found the Ulisse Deluxe Hostel. Went to a Cameo making presentation at Bimonte’s and bought a beautiful rose cameo carved from a mother-of-pearl shell. Happy hour at the Continental Hotel and then dinner with Rose, Ben, Rosemary and Jim at Aurora’s.
July 9th – Lunch at Ristorante San Antonino – a recommendation from Ann – when we told the owner who referred us he brought us a glass of the best limoncello. Walked to the marina in the old part of town and had wine on the dock and watched the sunset. Dinner at Soul and Fish (peppered mussels, fish soup and sword fish with mango salsa).
July 10th – Limoncello tasting and purchased the rest of gifts. Happy hour at the Continental and then dinner at Ristorante San Antonino. Walked to Gelateria David and had desert (of course). Listened to a wonderful singer at a local outdoor bar.
